Thank You for inviting us into your life!

OPENING COMMENTS
It has been an amazing and historic month in Florida.  ‘4’ direct strikes of hurricanes on the State in the short period of 6 weeks.  Our hearts and prayers go out to all who were injured or lost their belongings in the hurricanes.  We are grateful that belongings can be replaced, knowing that a life cannot.  We give thanks for the safety of all who came through the storms.  For insight on hurricanes, check OurBestIdea.com “Archives” for last month’s newsletter.

For many, Autumn has come. . .  Change of the season with its many beautiful colors, the crisp days and the energy beginning to build has we head towards the Winter Holidays.  Blessings to all who celebrated the Jewish New Year late last month and to all who celebrate the Pagan Holidays this month.

Take a moment to appreciate Mother Nature in all her glory as she puts on her annual show.  For those of us in Florida, we will celebrate and honor the season of renewal that this Autumn will represent.

Floridian spirit may be battered but it is not broken.  Our understanding of the eternal that exists in our mind, body and soul will perpetuate better days.  This too shall pass is our motto as we rebuild, refresh and renew.

FEATURED ARTICLE

by Dale Masker

The importance of voicing your truth.

A friend whose company I truly enjoy recently sent me an email that talked about the HBO Special, Ironjawed Ladies, the story of the American Suffragists.  I read the reminder with a great deal of interest and it encouraged me to remember the great power that can be harnessed when many voices are raised in concert.

These women were cruelly treated and imprisoned for the crime of wanting the ability to vote.  They suffered greatly so that women could participate in this process and today women make up an important and powerful
voting block.  Yet many women, as well as men do not participate in our voting process.

No matter what your views, if you do not participate in the process, your voice will NOT be heard.
Please make it a priority and VOTE.

Illness can manifest itself in the body when you do not speak your truth.  Many ailments can be traced to holding back your voice, your opinions, and your thoughts.

This internalizing process can negatively affect many of your systems, including your brain functions.  One way of making your voice heard is to journal your thoughts.

If you do not already have this habit in place, you may want to consider that writing your thoughts, can lead to some insights and breakthroughs in the path of your life.  It can help you identify things to focus on, to assist you in manifesting your desires; or in comprehending the things that hold you back, so you can clear them out and move on.

Get your journal from OurBestIdea.com and enjoy the journaling process, you’ll be inspired by all of the
quotes and feel more empowered.  You will give your voice a way to be
heard, this is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself!

Find the way to express your voice today- speak your truth.

PROSPERITY

The importance of investing for the long term.

How far away from retirement are you? 10 years? 15, 20?

It is closer than you think.  Retirement today means something different than it did to your parents.  Today it frequently means the beginning of a second career that suits your interests and talents.  For some this is by design, for others it is born of necessity.  You can take specific, measurable steps today to plan and save for a comfortable "second life".

If you work at a company that has a 401K plan, immediately maximize your deduction for that plan.  It is a very old concept, pay yourself first!  Many companies offer matching contributions and that means free money for you.

Do not fall into the trap of gambling with your retirement funds.  Remember, balance in all things.  Depending on where you are, your balance will look different from your co-workers, each person has a different viewpoint.

Consult a financial professional about your 401K as part of your dream life design.  It can make the difference in a "second life" you love to live!

HARMONY
Wild Thing, what do you want?
 by Halley Elise

How does one create harmony between the self and another? Illustrated below in the blurb from a Kipling tale, is the answer- You share something that the other values.

If you find that your relationships are not as harmonious as you would prefer, give thought to finding out what the other person values. It is only through others that we may know ourselves and gain consistent harmony with others.

Seek out those in your life that you desire to exist with harmoniously; look at those in the workplace, the community and at home.  You eliminate ill-harbored feelings toward someone, when you are supportive of their feelings and what they mean to them.

It is then that you may know the other and yourself, giving way to understanding and caring, forming harmony in your relationships.

Now to Kipling:

When Wild Dog reached the mouth of the Cave he lifted up the dried horse-skin with his nose and sniffed the beautiful smell of the roast mutton, and the Woman, looking at the blade-bone, heard him, and laughed, and said, 'Here comes the first. Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, what do you want?

' Wild Dog said, 'O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy, what is this that smells so good in the Wild Woods?'
Then the Woman picked up a roasted mutton-bone and threw it to Wild Dog, and said, 'Wild Thing out of the Wild Woods, taste and try.' Wild Dog gnawed the bone, and it was more delicious than anything he had ever tasted, and he said, 'O my Enemy and Wife of my Enemy, give me another.'

RELAXATION GETS YOU TO SLEEP FASTER

Harvard University investigators say cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) beats out sleeping pills for treating chronic insomnia. The scientists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School report in the Archives of Internal Medicine they found the behavioral and relaxation techniques appear more effective in the short and long term than the most widely prescribed sleeping pill.

"Sleeping pills are the most frequent treatment for insomnia, yet, CBT techniques clearly were more successful in helping the majority of study participants to become normal sleepers," said study leader Gregg Jacobs of the Sleep Disorders Center at Beth Israel and assistant professor of psychiatry at the medical school. "Our results suggest CBT should now be considered the first line treatment for insomnia, which is experienced on a nightly basis by one-third of the nation's adult population."

If insomnia troubles you, use a method of CBT, such as a relaxing meditation tape before bed.  Get one of our soothing tapes and get a better night's sleep. There are GREAT meditation tapes available in the OurBestIdea.Com Webshop.

Chuckle for the day:
We’ve recently included “Chuckle for the day” because smiles and laughter make you healthier!

The cop got out of his car and the kid who was stopped for speeding rolled down his window. "I've been waiting for you all day," the cop said.

The kid replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."

When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way without a ticket. (Just guessing he wasn't in Florida.)

How often during the course of a day do you practice being in the moment?  Really, fully aware, in the moment.  Feeling the breeze on your cheek, smelling the scent of the air around you, hearing the sound of a bird, or the chirping of a cricket, seeing the nuances of color and shape around you, tasting the subtleties of you favorite beverage or food?

Make a promise to yourself, that just for today, you will take 5 minutes to be fully, presently aware and in the moment. You will be glad you did.

A STORY FOR INSPIRATION
When Mike was 3, he wanted a sandbox, and his father said, "There goes the yard." We'll have kids over here day and night, and they'll throw sand into the flower beds, and cats will make a mess in it, and it'll kill the grass for sure."

And Mike's mother said, "It'll come back."

When Mike was 5, he wanted a jungle gym set with swings that would take his breath away and bars to take him to the summit, and his father said, "Good grief, I've seen those things in backyards, and do you know that they look like? Mud holes in the pasture. Kids digging their gym shoes in the ground. It'll kill the grass."

And Mike's mother said, "It'll come back."

Between breaths, when Daddy was blowing up the plastic swimming pool, he warned, "You know what they're going to do to this place? They're going to condemn it and use it for a missile site. I hope you know what you're doing. They'll track water everywhere and have a million water fights, and you won't be able to take out the garbage without stepping in mud up to your neck. When we take this down, we'll have the only brown lawn on the block."

"It'll come back," said Mike's mother.

When Mike was 12, he volunteered his yard for a campout. As they hoisted the tents and drove in the spikes, his father stood at the window and observed, "Why don't I just put grass seed out in cereal bowls for the birds and save myself the trouble of spreading it around? You know for a fact that those tents and all those big feet are going to trample down every single blade of grass, don't you? Don't bother to answer, I know what you're going to say. It'll come back."

Just when it looked like the new seed might take root, the winter came and the sled runners beat it into ridges. Mike's father shook his head and said. "I never asked for much in this life - only a patch of grass."

The lawn this fall was beautiful. It was green and alive and rolled out like a sponge carpet along the drive where gym shoes had trod - along the garage where bicycles used to fall - and around flower beds where little boys used to dig with iced tea spoons.  But Mike's father never saw it. He anxiously looked beyond the yard and asked with a catch in his voice, "He will come back won't he?"
