Falling.

------------

Nobody likes it. However, when used in an appropriate setting it can teach us a lot about trust.

Sometimes it can feel like you are falling through life. Feeling out of control and uncertain of your way. For some people it feels terrible, they hate the feeling of falling. They get so engaged with the feeling of falling that they fail to notice the tree branches they can grab to stop their fall. Other people are exhilirated by the feeling of falling, they embrace it, they revel in it and they jump out of planes to replicate the feeling in real life.

The ones who are excited by the feeling have that feeling because they trust that their parachute will open and they will land safely. People who are challenged by falling do not trust that there is anything there to catch them.

You can learn to trust yourself by doing the following exercise. Place a straight backed chair approximately sitting distance behind you. Make sure it is on a level non slippery surface. Sit in it. Now, stand back up and close your eyes. Now sit down. Did you check to see if the chair was still there before you sat down? 8 out of 10 people will open their eyes and look. Try this exercise until you can sit down without looking comfortably. This will increase your trust in yourself, and in turn, your trust in the Universe. Let us know how you do!

HEALTH

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE.

T * Ask the person to TALK to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today)

R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick'

out their tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 911 immediately !! and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Chuckle for the day:

A woman told a marriage counselor that her husband's complaint that he leads a dog's life is probably well-founded.

"He comes in the house with muddy feet," she said, "tracks across my clean floors, barks at nothing, growls at his food and makes himself comfortable on my best furniture."

AWARENESS

Listening.

-----------

Just take a moment today to listen to the world around you, both within and without.

Take a deep breath and close your eyes, be still. . . Do you hear Mother Nature as she sheds her summer clothes and prepares for winter? The migrating birds bring a last song of autumn, listen to it, for it. The wind rustles the leaves and when given the chance brushes your face. The warmth of the sun traces along your skin. Now what do you hear? Try this a few times a day and notice WHAT you hear? It is another world when you are attuned. Enjoy a few moments of being connected to nature residing around you today.

Another exercise that is useful everyday is to make a list of 10 things you are grateful for.  Put the list where you can see it easily.  The use it to take a moment to say a little "thank you" during the course of your day.  You will find that you have more to be grateful for as you go along.

QUOTES TO HELP YOU FLOURISH

When you're ready to quit, you're closer than you think. There's an old Chinese saying. It goes like this: "The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed."

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

A STORY FOR INSPIRATION

Helping hands

------------------

A mother, wishing to encourage her son's progress at the piano, bought tickets to a performance by the great Polish pianist Ignace Paderewski. When the evening arrived, they found their seats near the front of the concert hall and eyed the majestic Steinway waiting on the stage. Soon the mother found a friend to talk to, and the boy slipped away.

At eight o'clock, the lights in the auditorium began to dim, the spotlights came on, and only then did they notice the boy - up on the piano bench, innocently picking out "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." His mother gasped in shock and embarassment but, before she could retrieve her son, the master himself appeared on the stage and quickly moved to the keyboard.

He whispered gently to the boy, "Don't quit. Keep playing." Leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part. Soon his right arm reached around the other side and improvised a delightful obligato. Together, the old master and the young novice held the crowd mesmerized with their blended and beautiful music.

In all our lives, we receive helping hands - some we notice, some we don't. Equally we ourselves have countless opportunites to provide helping hands - sometimes we would like our assistance to be noticed, sometimes we don't. Little of what we all achieve is without learning from others and without support from others and what we receive we should hand out.

Speaking of helping hands, please share this newsletter with your friends.  OBI grows through sharing and we are blessed to have you as readers.  We appreciate it and you!
